What is the Summer Mission Trip?
For the past three summers, a group of high school and college teens and adults has gone on mission with Catholic Heart Work Camp to sites in Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
All current high school and college students were invited to participate in our 2017 Mission Trip with CHWC to New Orleans, Louisiana, from June 10-17. This year’s trip was limited to the first 45 teens to register. Applications were accepted from all area high school or college teens. The total cost of the trip is approximately $650/person. However, fundraising activities help to lower the cost to approximately $450 per teen.

Here are some testimonials from past participants:
“Before joining the mission trip group, I, like many other teenagers, felt as though I was not capable of making a difference. My first year on the mission trip in Kentucky, I helped renovate the home of a single mother with terminal brain cancer. Although changing the color of a couple of rooms in her house did not cure her illness or solve her financial issues, it did show her that there are people out there who care about her and want her suffering to end. By the end of the week, my team had forged a lasting friendship with the mother and her children. My experiences on the SFX mission trips these past two years has given me the confidence to believe that my presence matters, and that I am capable of making a difference.”
“The mission trip to Philadelphia meant so much to me and is a week that I will never forget. I had no idea what to expect, and I had no idea I would come home with a completely different perspective on life. After spending the week working at a needy church, I made beautiful connections with people and experienced that God puts us on earth for a reason. The feeling of being able to help individuals & serve in any way I was able to made me find a new appreciation for my life and improve my struggling self-worth. The feeling of being told that someone saw God in me has changed how I carry myself and treat others, and amplified my faith in the Lord. I was able to take my Philly experiences and use them in my community and serve others who are in need.”
“The 2 mission trips I have gone on have both been amazing experiences. Through both trips I was able to create relationships with people within our parish, from parishes throughout the country, with members of the communities we were serving, and with God. The part of the each week that stood out for me most was the time I spent on my worksites. Seeing the positive impact I can have on someone’s life is incredible and is the reason why I love going on these trips so much.”
Registration for the 2017 Mission Trip is open until we reach 45 teens. Any questions can be directed to Jane Bandyk or Fr. Bill Tkachuk at the rectory 708-352-0168.
